Water Temperature

The hot weather has taken a toll on the trout and we have seen water temperatures in the low 70'sF. Brookies and Browns will slow down their activity a lot, although you might catch a Rainbow which does feed in water temps in the low 70F.
The Maple has some areas of cool water and a late or early outing still has some good activity. During this time of year it is always great to get out on an inland lake and fly fish for other game fish. Very enjoyable seating in a canoe or kayak and cast for Blue Gill, Bass, or other game fish.
Water striders, Poppers with your fly rod provide easy casting and a relaxing day in the canoe. Watch the weather reports for those sneaky Thunder storms that can make the lake kick up and complicate the outing. So if you can, and the river water temp is high, try a relaxing float and see if you can catch a bigger Blue Gill then Richard did in the photo.
