Thunder storms have been the rule this past week, but the Maple river is clear with some tannin. The Mid-State Black river and the Sturgeon are high, slightly muddied but should clear up by the weekend. The Pigeon river still suffers silt from the park dam removal.
The Northern Jet Stream has settled over Northern Michigan bringing cooler temperatures and wind. The holiday will be cool with some surprise rain showers.
The big hex hatch is on. Night stalking Brown Trout hit small rivers. Those who target them are searching out flat water at night with Hexagenia Limbata may flies inundating the river. The wind is a problem. A calm warm evening is the best for giant Brown Trout on a dry fly...the time is now.
Tourists are pouring into the area and a secluded river retreat might be a good idea.
