Summertime Browns

Nice weather continues.
That time of year most of us dread is here. Summer is winding down. The temperatures are going to reach highs of mid 80's F probably for the last time this year. Still the lows at night make the day temperatures very survivable with night time dropping to the 50s F . Families begin to prepare to return to the cities for school. Football practice has started. The Maple trees start turning red.
All things considered the rivers are in great shape. Some of the back waters will warm up to 65 F but that will only be for a few more days this week. The Pigeon, Sturgeon, Black and Maple rivers are all good for fishing.
The trout will begin their spawning behavior, with their colors changing they will seek out gravel laden parts of the river for their redds. With river temps next week falling into the 50's F afternoon fishing will be productive. Terrestrials are still working and the Brook and Rainbow trout will take most anything. The Brown trout being piscivorous, flies like the Clouser minnow or a pike fly cast to deep holds will be most productive.
Most people and families are in some sort of transition this time of year, but if you can work in a day on the river your ability to handle the last days of the summer rush will be easier.
