Rainy Days

A surprise low has settled over Northern Michigan , it brought a steady rain that will change fish behavior. The trout will be put down, which means they are in their holes feeding on what comes their way down there. So you need to change your fly fishing approach with the weather. Wet flies, Bead head streamers & nymphs will work to get down to the trout in their holes. The one thing positive about these rainy days is you are like to find some good size trout hanging around in these deep holes. Drift your flies through deep cover and hold on....it will usually be a big trout.
This weather pattern could be with us until late Sunday. It is likely the upper reaches of the Maple, Pigeon, Black rivers are silted up and will take 2 days to clear. For Dry Flies and mergers try the lower reaches of these rivers and just maybe a clear Sunday night Hatch is possible.
