Cool and Small

Cool breezes out of the North West...lows in the 50's,  highs in the low 60's...Overcast with showers.... The Ole 3 day Rain Northern Michigan is known for.....nothing could be better for the trout. The rivers are silted up but should clear up by Saturday. If your visit is limited to just the next few days fish with bead heads and get that fly down in the deep holes. This cool weather is a welcome relief. It gets our rivers healthy and into the cooling of mid August. We more than likely will have another heat spell but the days are shorter and the rivers high....the fish will survive this years Global warming.

This upcoming week, look for those cool nights and warm afternoons. Fish the 58 F to 68 F water temperatures of the day. Be prepared for that dreaded Trico nightmare hatch, 9 AM to 11 AM ...7X tippet and the fly is size of your small finger nail...the fish will be small but feed like crazy.  Bring your most gentle over head cast...7X breaks off easily. Fly-Fishermen have been known to hook large fish on the trico...however they have also been known not to land them on 7X tippet....me included !
