The Maple River is still tannin colored, but the silt has settled out of all of the rivers. The water levels in the Maple River are at a comfortably high level. However the water temps remain warm at 64F to 68F, unusual for this early in the season.
The Pigeon & Black rivers are cooler due to their fast flow and light bottoms. This makes the evening fishing the best during " The Hatches ". 6 PM - 9:30 PM is the best time. If you can linger to 10 PM you will see many may fly hatches. 16-14-even 10 size flies and bigger fish. The weather forecast is going to have rain on and off. Flies..Adams-para dunn 12-14, Stone Flies 12-14, Green Drakes 10. Elk Hair Caddis and a Stimulator Always !
Safety suggestions ; If you are planning on being out after dark know the trails along the bank of the river where you're fishing, have a flash light or head lamp. The river bank has game trails used by animals that are easy to follow if you can see them. Finding them in the dark is the problem. The forest looks very similar at night so have a pre-determined path back to your car. Cell phones often do not work in the low river basin. Stay smart and Good Luck !
