The fly fishing season is coming to a close this next week, and the weather couldn't be more comfortable. Big spawning trout are active. Brook Trout are out mid river smudging. The Brown Trout are also feeding along the banks of the river in the early evening.
By October 1st many  of our blue ribbon trout rivers will close to all fishing leaving year 'round, gear restricted (GR), sections of the river as your only opportunity. These open areas are in full spawning time. Brook, Brown and King Salmon (Chinook) are making the fly fishing crazy to say the least.
The countryside has just begun it's fall color spectacle these last few days. Season wise, it is the calm before the storm. Last year the snow hit in late October. This year NOAA is forecasting a warm fall and winter. So far they have been right. Here in the North Country we could use the reprieve.
This week is going to be fun. Fall colors, comfortable weather, spawning trout are the things I enjoy most. Soon the burden of heavy boots, knit hats and gloves will impede ones movement. It is the final chapter of the 2015 season and it is a enjoyable one.
Savor it, heating bills are on the way!
